1WC’sChannel REVIEW 2012: (RT News) Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Hijab has been sacked, state TV reported. His current whereabouts are unknown, and there are conflicting reports as to whether he has fled the country. Hijab, Syria’s former Minister of Agriculture, was appointed Prime Minister in June following parliamentary elections in the country.

The ex-Prime Minister is currently in Jordan, where he fled with his family, Reuters cited a Jordanian official as saying. Hijab’s former spokesperson Muhammad el-Etri confirmed the report.

The former Prime Minister has defected from the Syrian government and traveled to Jordan with ten family members, where he will join the Syrian opposition forces, el-Etri told Al-Jazeera. However, Jordanian Minister of Information Samih al-Maaytah denied that Hijab is in the country. Meanwhile, Al-Arabiya reported that the defected premier would travel to Qatar.

Omar Ghalawanji, the country’s Minister of Local Administration, will temporarily assume Hijab's duties before a new Prime Minster is appointmented, the Syrian TV report said. The news comes less than a month after four key Syrian military officials, including the Defense Minister, were killed in a suicide bombing at a national security building in the capital of Damascus.

Levels of violence in the country remain high. A bomb blast at a state TV and radio building in Damascus wounded three people on Monday. Fighting continues in Aleppo, where government troops and armed opposition forces are battling for control of the city.

Opposition alleges more defections

In addition to Hijab, three other members of Assad’s cabinet have defected, opposition sources claimed. Three army generals also fled the country, separate rebel reports said.

The allegations were quickly picked up by international media. Treasurer Mohamad Gillati, one of the cabinet members alleged to have fled, denied the rumors of his defection in a live Syrian TV broadcast.

A bomb has detonated at a state-run television and radio building in the capital of Damascus, Syrian TV reported. The explosion occurred on the third floor of the building, which houses administrative offices including the station director’s, RT Damascus correspondent Oksana Boiko said. The station’s studios were frequently used by foreign journalists for live broadcasts from the city, she said. Three people were injured in the blast.

"It is clear that the blast was caused by an explosive device," Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi said. "Several of our colleagues were injured, but there were no serious injuries, and no dead." "Nothing can silence the voice of Syria or the voice of the Syrian people," al-Zoubi added while inspecting the damage at the TV building. "We have a thousand locations to broadcast from."

The station continued to broadcast in the wake of the bombing. The pro-government private Syrian TV station Al-Ikhbariya broadcast pictures of employees inspecting damage in the building and tending to a wounded colleague, the AP reported.  The images below show destroyed walls, overturned desks, blown-out cabinet doors, broken glass and dangling electricity cables.

Opposition forces mounted an assault on Aleppo’s main television and radio station on Saturday, August 4. The rebel gunmen failed to capture the building. Seven journalists and workers were killed in June when an armed group attacked the headquarters of Syria’s al-Ikhbaryia TV.

Missouri mosque burned to the ground a month
after failed arson . . .

An Islamic community center in Joplin, Missouri burned to the ground early Monday morning. It was the second fire the center had faced in about a month. It follows a July 4 arson at the Islamic Society of Joplin that caused only minor damage, but sparked an FBI investigation – and a $15,000 reward for tips leading to charges relating to the blaze.

The fire that destroyed the mosque and community center was reported at about 3:30 am local time Monday, the Jasper County Sheriff's Office said. The center's imam was in the building until late Sunday night, and told Yahoo! News that he was "sad and shocked" about the fire that destroyed his place of work and worship.

"Nothing can be saved," Imam Lahmuddin said Monday. "But since we are people of faith, we just can remember that this is a thing that happened because God let it happen, and we have to be patient, particularly in the month of Ramadan, control our emotions, our anger."

No injuries were reported in the fire, and no charges have been filed. The FBI has opened an investigation, and will try to determine whether it was caused by arson, according to bureau spokeswoman Bridgett Patton.

The FBI had also investigated a 2008 incident in which the center's sign was set on fire. As with the July arson, that investigation also hit a dead end. And though last month's failed attempt to burn the building down was caught on camera, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said the center's security cameras were destroyed in the Monday fire.

Meanwhile, the Council on American Islamic Relations is calling for increased police protection at houses of worship across the country following the Joplin fire and the deadly attack on a Sikh temple in Wisconsin the day before. The Washington-based advocacy group has also put up $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever set the Joplin fire.

The Islamic Society of Joplin opened in 2007 as a mosque and community center, and boasts a membership of about 50 families. According to Lahmuddin, the center's members are integral members of the Joplin community, many of them working as doctors at local hospitals.

On Sunday, a Sikh temple in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin came under siege when a gunman opened fire in the parking lot, then took hostages once inside the building. Some reports speculate that alleged neo-Nazi Wade Michael Page, the gunman in the Wisconsin attack, had confused the Sikhs for Muslims.

"I heard that yesterday, and this morning we see this happen in our place," Imam Lahmuddin said. "We are more fortunate that no one here got hurt."

Masalah Laut: 'Ketegangan Amerika Syarikat-China
menambah masalah untuk Asia Pasifik' . . .

1WC'sChannel REVIEW 2012: (12 hours ago) China has hit back at the US for criticizing its new military garrison in the South China Sea. The Sansha base was created just two weeks ago on Chinese territory. But it's in an area where competing territorial claims pit Beijing against the Philippines and Vietnam, among others. China set up the outpost to administer thousands of square miles of water it says are within its sovereignty. But Washington believes it's an attempt to occupy the entire South China Sea, which is rich in oil resources. The US has tens of thousands of military personnel in Asia-Pacific, and views itself as a stabilizing influence in the region. But Conn Hallinan, a senior analyst at Foreign Policy in Focus, believes regional tensions could escalate into an even wider conflict.

Syria: Attack on TV staff 'worst massacre against journalism'

Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi put the responsibility for killing of seven TV staffers on the EU, Arab and International organizations. He called it “the worst massacre against journalism and the freedom of media.”

Seven journalists and workers in the Syrian al-Ikhbaryia Satellite Channel were killed on Wednesday morning in an attack by an armed group targeting the headquarters of al-Ikhbaryia. The assault occurred some 20 kilometres south of the capital Damascus. They planted explosive devices at the headquarters of al-Ikhbaryia following their ransacking, and destroying the Satellite Channel studios, including the newsroom.

Photos show a heavily damaged room without a ceiling and tapes on fire amid piles of debris. An employee at the station told Associated Press that several people were wounded in the attack and guards were kidnapped. He did not give his name for fear of repercussions, but said the gunmen drove him about 200 meters away, and then he heard the explosion of the station being destroyed.

A few hours after the attack, the station was still able to broadcast.  "This massacre won't go unpunished and the broadcast of the Syrian al-Ikhbaryia Satellite will not stop and we hold the EU and Arab and International organizations responsible for this massacre," Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quotes Information Minister al-Zoubi as saying.“Those who committed this crime had carried out the decision of the Arab League Council to silence the voice of Syria."

Minister al-Zoubi said that this attack crowns the EU decision in Luxembourg to impose sanctions on Syrian TV and Radio in addition to the “continued campaigns of provocation against Syria.”

Sara Marusek, a researcher from Syracuse University in Beirut, believes that the attack benefits the rebels. She echoed al-Zoubi by saying that Western sanctions against Syrian media outlets had virtually sanctioned this act of terror.

“I cannot say if they’ve done it or not but this is definitely in their [rebels’] interests. And, really, it’s quite ironic that this station gets targeted right after the EU places sanctions on the station,” she told RT. “Sanctioning these different media outlets - and the US actually sanctions Syrian state television - it almost gives legitimacy for the rebels to attack these places and to commit these atrocious terrorist attacks against innocent people.”

She also doubted that there will be any “outcry [in the West] that we see when Western journalists get caught in crossfire.” The minister’s comments on the assault come as Syria’s President Bashar Assad acknowledged that his country is now in a state of war.

"We live in a real state of war from all angles," he said. "When we are in a war, all policies and all sides and all sectors need to be directed at winning this war."
He was speaking on Tuesday at the first cabinet meeting of the newly sworn-in government. President Assad ordered the cabinet to direct all their efforts to beating the armed opposition.
